Postgraduate Studies

There are too many reasons why I decided to study design here, like the vision, the people, the teachers, the subjects, and principally the options of postgraduate’s study.
My uncle is an architect from FAU and she decided to study in Barcelona as a postgraduate in Universidad of Barcelona. There, design is wonderful and you can have thousands of options. Now she is working there and sometimes she travel to Chile to talk to me about her work.
Since I visited Barcelona, I fell in love with the country. The culture was amazing, and I didn´t feel like an alien there. They talk Spanish as me, so It wasn´t difficult to travel alone. So, when my uncle started to live and work there, I didn´t think it two times, why not? I only need to have good marks to postulate.
I will love to work in something like researching of the culture of a country, so Barcelona is a good option to start. I think that I could study something about the origins of the materials linked to their folklore there. I will live with my uncle, and probably work with her too for a few years. I won’t support too many time so far of my family, and I want to investigate about more countries too, so It will be only a trip for that.
Besides, have a postgraduate is very important and well valued in Chile for work. We are so young and we have too much to learn and live! There is no better time invested than then time that we invested on us.

CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

Well, I don´t know if I want to change something about my career. I think that the curriculum is nice, and it’s more, because I actually think that our school is more demanding than others which are “at the same level”.  Our teachers say that a designer is not only a designer, we need to be an intellectual too to start to do our work well because we work for others and our mission is trying to solve people’s problems. It means that is necessary to us knowing about history, philosophy, maths, sciences, etc. besides the technical subjects like drawing, composition and project.   And I like this. I feel like when I get graduated, I will be prepared for everything. The problem aren’t the subjects. Is the schedule. It’s too badly organized! For example, I need to have Physics’ class three times a week, and on Thursday I have that three classes in just one day so that means that my Thursday is basically five continue hours of physic. I hate it. Another important thing that...

My Career

I’m in my first year studying design in Universidad de Chile. I chose this career because I always like to draw and I considerate myself very creative. I love do things for others with my hands, with my mind, with my heart, and is very grateful when that things are solving people´s problems or needs.  To be honest, I didn´t know too much about this career, so when I start studying I really started from the beginning. I was a little bit scared, because I didn’t know if I really chose the right career. I was between studying Art, Music or Design. Today I can say that I wasn’t wrong.  For a moment, I didn’t want to study here. I wanted to study in Valparaíso in the PUCV. The subjects that Universidad de Chile had before weren´t of my liking. But I’m from Rancagua and I would be too far of my family, so they didn’t like the idea of me studying there because I’m too sickly and I really have to take care of myself always. I wouldn’t have anyone there and I couldn’t be able to ...
